Australian Security Industry Individual Recognition program

The ASIAL Individual Recognition program sets the benchmark for security professionals looking to progress their careers and to be recognised by employers, peers and end users.


Individuals who meet the entry criteria are eligible to receive the post-nominal credential of either MASIAL, AFASIAL, FASIAL or FASIAL (Life). Post-nominals provide a clear picture of an individual’s security experience and capability, a commitment to practice in accordance with the highest professional and ethical standards and a strong affiliation with the Association.

How does the program work?

Successful applicants need to meet the eligibility criteria to participate in the program. These include educational qualifications, security industry experience, professional achievements, and adherence to the ASIAL Code of Professional Conduct.

When you become a member of the ASIAL Individual Professional Recognition program you are also required to participate in continuing professional development (CPD). You must accrue 12 points over each year of your membership in order to be eligible to renew.

The CPD program is composed of the following elements:

1. NUMBER OF POINTS TO BE COMPLETED
A member of the Individual Professional Recognition Program must complete 12 points of professional development annually.

2. TYPES OF CPD TO BE COMPLETED
Continuing Professional Development must consist of any combination of at least two of the following:

  • Professional Activities, e.g. Industry Briefings, subscriptions, presentations etc.
  • An activity with a stated development outcome, e.g. Online learning, webinars, workshops etc.
  • A learning activity conducted by an RTO and included formal assessment, e.g. Units of competency aligned to CPP07 training package.

NOTE: Points must be counted from at least 2 of these categories to meet your CPD requirements

As an employer, when you hire an individual participating on the ASIAL Individual Professional Recognition Program, you are selecting a candidate whose skills and experience have been assessed against professional standards set by the security industry’s peak national body – ASIAL. The program provides a valuable measure of an individual’s expertise and capability.

How do I apply and how much does it cost?

Anyone committed to pursuing a career in the security industry can participate, provided you meet the eligibility criteria.

Please read the eligibility criteria to select the appropriate recognition level:

1. MEMBER Individual Professional Recognition Program (MASIAL)

  • Join fee is $265 (includes $66 non-refundable application processing fee) for the first year.
  • The renewal fee is $199 per subsequent 12 months 

2. ASSOCIATE FELLOW (AFASIAL)

  • Join fee is $285 (includes $66 non-refundable application processing fee) for the first year.
  • The renewal fee is $219 per subsequent 12 months 

3. FELLOW (FASIAL)

  • Join fee is $305 (includes $66 non-refundable application processing fee) for the first year.
  • The renewal fee is $239 per subsequent 12 months

Join Individual Recognition Program

Depending on your recognition level, the required supporting documents include:

- a resume or CV with your achievements, work experience and industry contribution;
- copies of certificates/evidence of your educational qualifications;
- written recommendations;
- National Police Check (if required).

The Board of ASIAL may, at any time by resolution, invite a person to become a Life Fellow on the grounds of their
distinguished service to the industry and the Association. In order to be eligible the individual must have been a Fellow
of the Association for at least ten years and provide 5 written references from recognised individuals. Life Fellows are
not required to undertake the Australian Security Industry Individual Recognition Program professional development
requirement.
